Abigail's Birth Story

In true second child fashion, I am just now getting around to posting this a month after our sweet girl's arrival.  I have no idea if this is complete or not, but it's what I can remember...

I'm going to warn you some of this may be too much information for some of you, however, I want to document as much as possible, as I know I won't be able to remember all the details as the years go by and I'd really love to have something to look back on.  So if you're not interested in details, then you probably don't want to read this post :)

Those of you that have been following the blog know that I've been having a fair amount of contractions since 30 weeks.  Well the 2 weeks leading up to my due date I was having even more contractions.  A few times I even thought it could be the beginnings of labor, but each time they would subside.  I started thinking maybe I was going to be pregnant forever.  Ha!

Well my due date came & went, and I kept having more signs that labor would be (hopefully) beginning soon.  At about 4:30ish the morning of the 21st I woke up with some contractions that were beginning to feel a little bit painful.  This had happened before so I wasn't sure yet, but was hopeful.  By about 4:45 I realized they were more painful and were coming fairly quickly so I started timing them.  After a few, I determined they were coming 5 minutes a part.  The time in which my doctor recommended we head to the hospital.  I woke Brandon up, then called my parents.  At this point I wasn't sure what to do about Logan.  I didn't want to wake him up, and I really hated to call my sister so early.  After talking with my parents we decided they would come, my Dad would stay, and my mom would ride with us.  My Dad would come later after we got to the hospital and determined how things were progressing.

This next part will probably make many people laugh, but when my parents arrived, I was not ready to go because I was putting make-up on.  I know, this is totally out of character for me.  However, I know with babies comes pictures, and childbirth isn't exactly the most beautiful thing, so a girl has to do what a girl has to do to feel pretty enough to allow pictures.  Ha!

By the time we left contractions had become about 3 minutes apart.  It took us probably 35-40 minutes to get to the hospital and when we got there they were definitely getting closer together and stronger.  I was sent to triage where they monitored and checked me.  I was between 5-6 cm.  They then checked with my doctor and I was admitted.  It was rather hectic because it was shift change time so my triage nurse had to help out who would become my labor and delivery nurse.  I wish I could remember the triage nurse's name, but my labor & delivery nurse was Jennifer.  Once I was in the room & everything was set up, my doctor came in.  I'm guessing it was around 8:15, but I honestly don't remember.  At this point I wasn't sure I wanted an epidural.  My doctor said I needed to deliver by noon because she was leaving then, and wanted to start me on Pitocin to speed things up.  Since I've heard terrible things about how bad it makes the contractions and I had not yet decided on an epidural, I said I'd rather not have it and if she wasn't the one to deliver that would be ok.  She broke my water and then left.

After she broke my water, holy cow, the pain went from manageable to ridiculous.  I then told the nurse I'd like that epidural.  However, the anesthesiologist was about to go into a C-section, so I would have to wait.  My nurse did call him to let him know we wanted him as soon as he was done.  However, within the next 30 minutes I had progressed to an 8 and things were moving so fast I realized that the likelihood of an epidural was slim.  I asked my nurse if it was too late and I don't remember exactly what she said, but I could tell from the look on her face that it was indeed too late.

The pain only got worse from there and as much as I'd like to say I was calm and it was a piece of cake and I never screamed, that was not at all the case.  I don't consider myself a loud or dramatic person and as much as I wanted to not scream during the contracts/labor/delivery, it is just forced out of you.  I, seriously, in my head was saying "I don't want to scream, this is so embarrassing, but OMG I can't help it, it's just coming."  I remember apologizing to Brandon on multiple occasions because I was afraid I was making him uncomfortable.  I didn't want him to worry about me, I didn't want him to feel bad that he honestly could do nothing.  He was trying to be encouraging and reminding me to breath, but at one point I just couldn't take it and told him to stop breathing on me.  I tried to (at least in my head) say it in as nice a way as possible, but I honestly don't remember how it came out.  Brandon may remember it differently, but hopefully I wasn't too harsh. Ha!

Not too long after I was 8 centimeters I remember feeling like I just HAD to push.  The nurse checked me again but I was still an 8 and she told me not to push.  It was the weirdest feeling.  The baby was just pushing down and I felt like I needed to keep pushing her out.  This feeling continued until I could actually push.  It took what felt like forever, but really probably wasn't more than 30 minutes.  Finally, when I got close, they called my doctor.  We had a little problem with the last little bit of dilating as some of my cervix just wouldn't open enough, so when my doctor came she had to help Abigail past that (or at least that's what I assume, I honestly have no idea what she did).

This next part may have TMI, but I want to document it anyway (so feel free to skip it)...When my doctor arrived I told her I was worried I was going to have a bowel movement.  I was super concerned about having a bowel movement in front of my hubby & everyone, so when it was time to push, I was trying to push in a way that wouldn't allow that to happen, and I don't know why I thought I could push a baby out and hold everything else in.  After my first try pushing, my doctor looked at me and said something along the lines of "You're not doing anything.  Screaming isn't pushing.  You can't worry about a bowel movement, you've got to push and get her out."  I think she may have also said something along the lines of the baby isn't liking this (later learned the cord was wrapped around her neck like her big brother).  That got me over my fears and I just pushed as hard as I could.  At some point I did have an episiotomy and as horrible as I thought that would be it was just mixed in with all the other pain and I'm not sure I really "felt" it.  I think it took 3 contractions and then she was born.  I had forgotten that my doctor told me when my water had broken that there was meconium in my water, so NICU would have to take her right away (still in my room though) to assess her lungs to make sure none of it had gotten into her lungs. My doctor put her finger in Abigail's mouth as soon as she was born, so she wouldn't breath and possibly get some in her lungs.  But, because of this, she didn't cry when she was born and I immediately was concerned and said "She isn't crying" - about to cry myself out of worry when my doctor reminded me it was because she put her finger in her mouth and I then remembered she had told me that would happen.

While the NICU nurses/doctor/whoever assessed her, my doctor had to stitch & finish things up with me.  Last time, with the epidural, I didn't even know what was going on, but this time, unfortunately it was just more discomfort/pain.  Not as much as the labor/delivery, but still - not fun.  I just wanted to be done.  I just wanted to hold my baby.  Once the NICU assessed Abigail they determined all was well.  It was really just a few minutes before I got to hold Abigail on my chest.  At that point, all else melted away and I honestly don't remember much after that.  However, I do remember that my reaction to getting to hold her wasn't as emotional as when Logan was born.  Not to say I wasn't as happy to have Abigail, and at first I felt bad that I didn't have the same reaction, but honestly, I just think that due to the different situation, the ability to really realize and process what just happened wasn't there.  I think I was in a little bit of shock.  Ha!  It all happened so fast there wasn't really time for emotion.

After the doctor was finished with everything, I was able to nurse Abigail.  At some point, I honestly don't remember when, Brandon went to tell family that she was here.

Once we had some family time, it was time for her bath.  We invited the rest of our family in and Logan got to meet his sister.  He gave her a present and she "gave" him one as well.  He was very quiet at first, but seemed curious about her.  I'm not sure he really knew what to think.  He was definitely very interested in her when she cried though.  He would always stop what he was doing to go see her.

They did not weigh & measure her until this point and we found out she was 9 pounds 8.4 ounces and 20 3/4 inches long.  Ouch!  That explains A LOT!  Ha!  No wonder I had such a giant belly.

My father-in-law left shortly after this for work stuff and my parents left with Logan around his nap time so he could get one and not melt down.  My father-in-law came back later as he never got his turn to hold Abigail.  After, my mother-in-law went to pick up Logan & Brandon & my father-in-law went to get celebratory wings for dinner.  My Dad came back by that evening to bring us some stuff and see Abigail one more time before he had to head to East Texas for a fishing trip.  My sister, brother-in-law and niece also came to visit us that evening.  It was a long, busy, but wonderful day!

The first night was a little different than our first night with Logan.  He would sleep for a little while, nurse and then sleep some more.  The nurses were the ones that kept me from sleeping the first night with Logan.  With Abigail, she had a period of time where she seriously wanted to nurse for 2 hours straight.  I thought I might die.  Ha!  I called my nurse out of desperation and she recommended the pacifier and some warm blankets.  I was a little hesitant the first night to already give her a pacifier, but she had been latching fine, and I was desperate, so we gave it a try and she gave us a good 2-3 hours.  It was wonderful.  Thankfully the next time she nursed we had no problems from her use of the paci.  It is now our best friend just like with Logan.  Ha!  I also want to mention that my night nurse was Michelle and she was my favorite nurse, probably even of all the nurses I had with Logan too.  She was so very sweet, and very helpful too.

The next morning my doctor came back to check on me and she asked me if I wanted to go home or stay and of course I picked go home.  I was so glad she gave me the option again.  We just had to wait for the pediatrician to check out Abigail again and give us her approval to go home and then we'd be able to leave.  My in-laws had kept Logan for the night, and they brought him back to see us again, and my mom also came to visit.  We didn't have any other visitors as we weren't there long and our hospital isn't very close to most of our friends.

We got to leave around 4, so we spent less than 36 hours in the hospital (also random side note - they don't make you leave in a wheel chair anymore.  It was kind of weird just walking out with her, but then again, I felt weirder having to be wheeled out with Logan.  Ha!).  However, since it was a Friday, it was just in time for traffic.  Yay!  Fortunately it wasn't too terrible yet, but we still would have rather not had any.  We just wanted to be home.  It was a little weird when we got home because Logan wasn't there, and no family or friends came by, but it was also kind of nice to just have a little family time with the 3 of us.

Since it's been so long, I honestly don't remember much about our first night.  I don't think she was quite as good of a sleeper as Logan, but I do remember it was better than our night in the hospital.

It was such a crazy experience, but I wouldn't trade it for the world.  It is how we got our sweet girl and she is so worth it.  I'd do it again in a heartbeat!  I love her so very much.!!  She will never really know the extent, but hopefully one day she will be a momma and have a little bit of an idea just how much I love her.

Abigail 1 Month

Abigail,

I cannot believe a whole month has already gone by, yet at the same time, it just feels so normal for you to be here.  Almost as if you've always been here.  At your 2 week check-up you were 10 lbs 1 oz (94th percentile), you were 21 1/2 inches long (96th percentile) and your head circumference was 14 1/4 inches (81st percentile).  Such a big girl!  I would guess you are about 11 pounds now (edit: you went to the doctor the day after your 1 month b-day and you are 11 lbs 2.5 oz.).

You are growing and changing so much every day!  I feel like it is going by way too fast!

You are still in size 1 diapers (you started in those at the hospital), and are wearing 0-3 month clothes.  They fit you perfectly so I imagine it won't be too much longer until you are in 3-6 month clothes.  You only got to wear the newborn size for a week or 2.

You are already starting to smile & coo regularly and it just makes this Momma's heart so happy.

Unfortunately, I think you have reflux.  You don't spit up a TON, but you do a little bit ever day and some days you will have a time when pretty much throw everything up.  You often choke when nursing or between nursings when your reflux is acting up.  It scares me so much at times because sometimes I'm worried you won't start breathing again.  Thankfully, you always do :)

You are a great sleeper and are already sleeping 6-7 hours a night.  You sleep in your Rock & Play which I think helps with your reflux at night.  It keeps you at an angle so you don't seem to have choking spells like you did before you started using it.  Hopefully you will be in your own room soon.  Mommy is a little behind in getting it ready.

You also got to take your first trip to Aggieland to take pictures in the blue bonnets, and then you got to go to Kyle Field for the first time to watch the Aggie's spring scrimmage - The Maroon & White game.  You were such a trooper!!

I still can't believe you are here, and you are ours!  I feel so blessed to be your Mommy and I'm looking forward to the days, weeks, months & years to come with you.  I love you so very much!!

Love,

40 Weeks

40 Weeks

Total Weight Loss/Gain: So I've gained a couple pounds each week the last few weeks, so my total today at my appointment is 43.  Yikes!  Looks like I've got some work to do after Abigail arrives :)  Oh well, she's worth it!

Size of Baby: Our baby is about the size of a jackfruit (pic below because I had no idea what one was...but seriously a watermelon seems bigger)! - approximately 18.9 to 20.9 inches and weighs about 6.2 to 9.2 pounds.  I think she'll be close to Logan in weight around 8 1/2 pounds.  Hopefully we'll know soon :)

Maternity Clothes: Same - Yep, but even some of those don't really fit.  I'm that huge.  Ha!

Sleep: What is that??

Movement: Same - mostly just shifts, turns and stretches.  She's running out of room :)  She's also very sweet to kick/punch in some unpleasant places.  Sometimes I'm afraid she's going to break my water when she does it.  Ha!

Cravings/Aversions: Same - Just food in general.  I'm just hungry and want to eat all the time.  Of course, I'm not hungry for the healthy stuff though.

What I Miss: Same - Sleep, having energy, and being able to be on my feet for longer periods of time so I can actually accomplish stuff.

Gender: Our sweet little girl - Abigail!

Mood: Excited, and super ready to meet our girl :)

Milestones: We are officially full term.  The full 40 weeks.  This is a huge answer to prayer, and honestly I didn't think we'd make it this far.  Although now that we're here, I'm super ready (and have been).

Symptoms/Medical Concerns:  Everything is mostly the same...

Lots of contractions that feel like they should be doing something, but obviously haven't :)

The heartburn is very annoying and frequent, but I'm thankful it's not more severe.

Restless leg is still driving me crazy, even during the day. Still having swelling in my ankles (and some in my face) too, but definitely not as bad as it could be.

Stretch marks are still bad and VERY itchy :(

Differences From Past Pregnancy: I'm much more uncomfortable at this point this time than I was with Logan.  I probably could have gone an extra week past when I delivered him before being uncomfortable.

What I Look Forward To: Crazy to say, but labor & delivery.  Mostly delivery.  However, I think labor is somewhat of a privilege.  Not everyone gets the opportunity to experience it and I think it's a beautiful thing (of course less pain would definitely be nice ;-)).

I am also, of course, very much looking forward to meeting our sweet girl, seeing what she looks like, holding her, kissing her, and all the other wonderful things that come along with being a momma.

Anything Else You'd Like to Share:  I was 2 cm dilated last week, and am still 2 cm dilated this week and still only about 50% effaced.  She doesn't seem to be making any moves towards exiting, but Logan didn't either and he just came.

This may be TMI but she stripped my membranes this appointment (and she did when I was 4 days late with Logan as well & I went into labor that afternoon).  I am hopeful that maybe it will work this time as well.  I've been having some contractions that I *think* may be a little different, but that may just be because I want them to be.  Ha!  Anyway, she said if it's going to work, it will happen within 24 hours.  I'm really hoping she takes it as a cue to exit :)

Here's a pic from yesterday in front of her crib. The lighting wasn't great so the color of her walls isn't as pretty as it is in person, but it's a peak into her room at the moment. Hopefully more room pics to come soon :)

Dear...

Dear Abigail,

I cannot believe your birthday will be here soon.  It has been such a rollercoaster since finding out you were on your way, but I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.  I cannot wait to meet you, see your sweet face, and hold you close.  You are already such a loved little girl, but I know when you arrive, the love we have for you will grow in such a way that can't be explained or measured.

Just like for your big brother, my hope for you is that God will make Himself known to you, that you will desire to know God more and that you will have a relationship with Him.  I pray that God will help me to guide you in a way that you will know the love of God and desire to do what is pleasing in His eyes.

You are already such a blessing and I am so looking forward to your arrival.  I love you more than you will ever know!

Love,

Dear Logan,

Very soon you will be a big brother!  I am so proud of the big boy you are becoming.  You are sweet, and busy, and funny, and smart, and so much more.  You care when others are sad and hurting and want them to feel better.  I know you will help take good care of your little sister.

I hope you know Mommy & Daddy love you so very much!  I know you can never truly know or understand the full love we have for you, but I hope you feel very loved.  Even though you are such a big boy now, you will always be my baby no matter how big you get.

I worry so much about the change of adding another child to our family, and how that will affect you.  I don't want you to ever feel like you are being replaced, or that you aren't enough because that is not at all the case.  Our love for you will never lessen, it will only grow.

My prayer for you and your sister is that you will love each other and become good friends.  I know there will be times when you may not like each other very much, but I hope you always love each other.

You are such a blessing and I am so thankful God allowed me to be your mother.  I love you sweet boy!!

Love,

39 Weeks

39 Weeks

Total Weight Loss/Gain: I was up 38 at my appointment last Tuesday which was shocking because I thought it'd be more.  I'm pretty sure I'm up at least 40 now though.  I will be shocked again if it's not at least that much.  My appointment is tomorrow morning, so I will know for sure then.

Size of Baby: Our baby is about the size of a watermelon (no wonder I'm so huge! ha!)! - approximately 18.9 to 20.9 inches and weighs about 6.2 to 9.2 pounds.  I'm going to throw out a guess and say she's getting close to 8 pounds.

Maternity Clothes: Yep, but even some of those don't really fit.  I'm that huge.  Ha!

Sleep: No changes...not much sleep happenin' here

Movement: Same - mostly just shifts, turns and stretches.  She's running out of room :)  She's also very sweet to kick/punch in some unpleasant places.  Sometimes I'm afraid she's going to break my water when she does it.  Ha!

Cravings/Aversions: Just food in general.  I'm just hungry and want to eat all the time.  Of course, I'm not hungry for the healthy stuff though

What I Miss: Same - Sleep, having energy, and being able to be on my feet for longer periods of time so I can actually accomplish stuff.

Gender: Our sweet little girl - Abigail!

Mood: Doing better, getting things checked off the list is helping tremendously :)

Milestones: 9 weeks ago, if you asked me, I would have thought she would already be here by now, but she still seems content to just hang out.  I'm so thankful though that we've made it this far.

Symptoms/Medical Concerns: I had the crazy spots this evening, and when I took my blood pressure it was high.  Thankfully it was right before Brandon was leaving work, and Logan played pretty independently so I could lay down on the cough and rest.  The spots went away, but my blood pressure was still high.  Once Brandon got home I went to lay down in our bed.  So thankful he took care of Logan for me tonight.  It's still slightly elevated, but I've been in bed ever since.  I'm also thankful I have a friend that was a L&D nurse and lets me bug her with questions about what I should do.  Hopefully things stay ok  for the rest of the night and I'll see my doctor in the morning.

Everything else is mostly the same - still having some pain, but it's still manageable so I'm VERY thankful for that.

The heartburn is still fairly constant, but I'm thankful that it's not all that severe.

Restless leg is driving me crazy, even during the day. Still having swelling in my ankles (and some in my face) too, but definitely not as bad as it could be.

Stretch marks are still bad and VERY itchy :(

Differences From Past Pregnancy: This whole pregnancy has just been crazy different.  So many more complications, things to worry about and more discomfort/pain than last time.

What I Look Forward To: Things are mostly to a point that I feel like we're ready enough for her to come.  I still have a long list I'd like to accomplish, but really I'm just ready to meet her, hold her and kiss her sweet face.

Anything Else You'd Like to Share:  There were no changes at my appointment last week.  I was still 1 1/2 centimeters.  This was surprising to me considering the amount and strength of contractions I had been having.  I've been having more this week as well, so I'm wondering if things will be changed at all at my appointment tomorrow.  We shall see.  This girl obviously has a plan of her own and I have no idea what it is.  Ha!

To Do List update - the new knobs for the dresser arrived, have been installed and look great!  We got the twin bed and mattress & it is all set up as well.  I am looking into fabric for curtains.  Trying to find some sort of linens for the twin bed.  I got a crib sheet in ivory to match the bedding so the crib is all set.  The rocker is in the room.  We rearranged furniture in our room to accommodate the pack n play.  My and Abigail's bags are packed.  Logan's is partially packed.  If you missed my last post about my CHAOS it has some more updates on Brandon's office and other cleaning/organizing stuff we've been up to.

Here's a pic from Saturday...can you believe it?  That is not a basketball or pillow or any other object.  That is my real actual belly right now.  Ha! (Crazy side note - that shirt isn't even a maternity shirt, yet it fits better than some of my maternity shirts.  So funny!)

Also, Logan wanted a picture too, so we took some together :)  Most of them didn't turn out great, but here's one of him "cheese"ing for the camera.  Ha!

CHAOS

I can't believe it's been 3 years (and 2 months - to the day) since I started this blog.  When I started it, we had no kiddos and weren't even expecting yet.  We had been trying for a little blessing for almost a year, and I decided I needed something enjoyable to do that would distract me from waiting on a sweet baby.

I also struggled with CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) because I'm just not naturally the most organized person.  It is something that takes A LOT of work for me and I easily become overwhelmed.  Well, I decided 3 year ago that I was going to do something about the CHAOS and started this blog partly to help hold me accountable.  Just a couple months later we found out we were expecting.  I had "morning" (more like all day) sickness starting at 7 weeks that caused huge set backs in the process of taking back control of my house.

Well, fast forward 3 years - I have a 2 year old and am expecting my second any day now, and the CHAOS has never had the chance to leave.  I have wanted to "nest" so badly this entire pregnancy, but was sick for a longer period of time & to a greater degree with this pregnancy than with Logan which really limited my ability to keep up with more than just my sweet, active little boy.  Once I finally felt better, it was the holidays and Logan's birthday so we were pretty busy with all that that involves.  I thought for sure once the holidays were over I would kick things into full gear and take care of a lot of much needed "to do" items before the baby arrived.  However, as many of you already know if you've been following the blog, after the holidays I started having regular contractions and had to go to the hospital 2 nights in a row to stop them.  I was then given meds to regulate them at home and put on modified bed rest (I could still do things but had to take it easier).  Once that seemed to get better I started having SEVERE sciatic pain, so much so that I used crutches and a walker around the house just to make it through the day.  Logan and I went no where because I couldn't physically tend to a VERY active 2 year old in settings outside of the home.  It was pretty awful because I felt like such a horrible mom not being able to play with him and do normal stuff with him, but physically the pain was so great, I could barely do anything.  All of this led to even more CHAOS and more craziness in my head because all I wanted to do was get things ready for our sweet girl.

Well thanks to prayer, a chiropractor, and/or the baby moving, I finally got relief a couple weeks ago from the pain.  I have been in full nesting since then.  Unfortunately, I'm still not 100% pain free, and there are things I just can't do, but I've been working hard to do what I can.

Here are some of the things I've been up to...

I finally made myself try doing one load of laundry a day because I figured I could physically manage that.  Well, because of that, I actually discovered that it works really well for me to do that, and I don't mind it as much as I thought I would.  I have had people tell me before to do that, but my thought was "I hate laundry, why would I want to do it EVERY day?"  I never gave it a chance, but because I had to this time, I found out it's really not bad and I haven't had laundry piled up since then.  Our hampers are never overflowing and I don't clean have laundry sitting in the dryer or in baskets for days.  My rule is that I don't go to bed until the laundry in the dryer is put away (unless it gets put in the dryer right before I go to bed, but then the next day I don't start the new load until the old one is put away).  This is HUGE!  There are not tons of clothes on the floor of our bedroom and closets.  You have been able to see my closet floor for weeks now.  It has been a LONG time since that was the case.  Seriously y'all, this is a BIG deal!

I have also managed to de-clutter a couple of our typical clutter areas in our main living area, but still have a few more to go on that.  The kitchen is ok, but still in need of work.  It's really hard right now for me to wash dishes because my belly prevents me from being close enough to the sink and my back starts to hurt after like 3 minutes of trying to lean over to wash stuff.  I have had to ask for a lot of help from the hubby in this area, but I really hate to do that.  It's so not his favorite thing to do, and he works, goes to school and helps with Logan, so I feel guilty asking him to do one more thing at night when I'm sure all he wants to do is have some time to himself.  However, he's a good sport and helps when I ask.  And, I will add, that he pretty much never complains.  He's pretty awesome like that.

We managed to get all of my school stuff in the attic, and the nursery room cleared out.  We painted and set up furniture and it's coming along nicely.  It's really hard though because I'm wanting to get it decorated and such, but that really shouldn't be as big of a priority as trying to finish getting the rest of the house organized before Abigail's arrival because she won't be in her room right away, but I will have to look at the mess/clutter every day if I don't get it taken care of now.  I just can't help but search online, think about things, try to plan, etc. because that is way more fun than organizing.  I'm trying to balance and do a little of both :)

The big task we are working on right now is getting the office organized and back to an office instead of a storage room.  It's funny because Logan calls it Daddy's closet, and honestly that's what it's become.  We purchased another bookshelf, and that has helped as we have (read: Brandon has) tons of books and they were just piling up everywhere.  We also reorganized his closet and got rid of some stuff, which has helped clear a lot of space in the room.  We still have boxes of papers to sort through, and some other stuff to work on, but it's definitely getting better and looking more like an office than a closet/storage room.

The more carpet & counter/table top space I see around our house the better I feel.  Progress is great, but I'm definitely getting the itch to just be DONE.  I want it all done, and I want it done now, but unfortunately, I'm not physically capable of going that fast and there's really just not enough time in the day to get it done as quickly as I'd like (longest sentence ever - ha!).

I'm thankful Abigail is taking her time to come because it's allowing us to get so much done and I know I will be able to enjoy her that much more when she arrives because I won't be having to worry/stress over all the mess in the house.  And, babies tend to attract visitors, so this way I won't be feeling the effects of CHAOS when someone wants to come by to see our sweet girl.  Although I am worried her arrival will cause a set back, but hopefully it won't be so much so that I can't get caught up once we adjust to our new normal with 2 kiddos.

I know having a clean & organized house is not what is most important in this life, but it just puts me (and Brandon too) into a better mood.  I feel like when I don't have that added stress I'm able to be a better wife and mother.  I am hoping to make this our new normal. If/when it's accomplished, I will have to take some pictures so I can share them.

38 Weeks

38 Weeks

Total Weight Loss/Gain: I was up 37 at my appointment last week, but looks like I might be up another 2 again (yikes!).  I know she's not gaining that much that fast, so looks like I'm going to have some work to do after she comes.  I have an appointment tomorrow, so I will know for sure then.

Size of Baby: Our baby is about the size of a pumpkin! - approximately 18.9 to 20.9 inches and weighs about 6.2 to 9.2 pounds.  I'm going to throw out a guess and say she's around 7.

Maternity Clothes: Yep

Sleep: No changes...not much sleep happenin' here

Movement: Mostly just shifts, turns and stretches.  She's running out of room :)  She's also very sweet to kick/punch in some unpleasant places.  Sometimes I'm afraid she's going to break my water when she does it.  Ha!

Cravings/Aversions: Sweets still, lots of chocolate.  Probably the reason for all the gaining I'm doing here at the end.  I have tried to limit myself, but haven't done as good of a job as I should.  I've also forgotten to mention that Coke has been a big craving.  I'm not usually a huge soda drinker, but any time there is Coke available, I seem to want it.  I have avoided buying it because I really don't want to drink that much :)

What I Miss: Same - Sleep, having energy, and being able to be on my feet for longer periods of time so I can actually accomplish stuff.

Gender: Our sweet little girl - Abigail!

Mood: Doing better, getting things checked off the list is helping tremendously :)

Milestones: I can't believe I'm 38 weeks.  So excited each week that passes!  I'm sure if I make it to 40 I'll be thinking "Ok, you can seriously come any time now" but really I'm just thankful for each day that I get to carry her.  Looking forward to seeing her sweet face though!!

HUGE ONES - The room is painted, dresser is purchased & in the room, the crib is set up (and I thought that wasn't going to happen until later this week, but Brandon surprised me and last night after I went to bed he set it up.  Isn't he the best???), clothes are washed & in dresser/closet, and baby stuff is packed for the hospital (still working on my bag, but it's partially there).

Hopefully by next week I'll have some pictures to post, but I wanted to wait until a little bit more was completed before taking/posting pictures.

Symptoms/Medical Concerns: Mostly the same - still having some pain, but it's still manageable so I'm VERY thankful for that.

The heartburn is still fairly constant, but I'm thankful that it's not all that severe.

Restless leg is driving me crazy, even during the day. Still having swelling in my ankles (and some in my face) too, but definitely not as bad as it could be.

I had the crazy spots again yesterday, but only for a short while.

Stretch marks are getting ridiculous and I'm guessing they'll only get worse from here.  It's also making my belly VERY itchy, which is so not fun :(

Differences From Past Pregnancy: I was barely dilated at all on the day I went into labor with Logan (at 40 weeks 5 days), and am already dilating this time.  I wonder if it will result in her being earlier than her brother.

What I Look Forward To: Finishing the nursery - I'm in major get it done mode right now.  About to order some different knobs for the dresser to make it a little girlier, looking at fabric for curtains, made a plan to try to organize/declutter Brandon's office (the last HUGE area of need - still lots of little stuff, but this is the biggest and should help with some of other little spots), looking into getting the house cleaned, and a million other things racing through my mind that I'd like to try to do before her arrival...I think I'm nesting just a tad.  Ha!  I just wish I had been able to do this sooner.

Anything Else You'd Like to Share:  I was 1 1/2 centimeters at my appointment last Tuesday, and I have another appointment tomorrow, so I'm curious again to see if anything has changed.

No picture this week, sorry...

37 Weeks

37 Weeks

Total Weight Loss/Gain: I was up 35 at my appointment last week and think I'm about the same today.  I have an appointment tomorrow, so I will know for sure then.

Size of Baby: Our baby is about the size of a winter melon - approximately 18.9 to 20.9 inches and weighs about 6.2 to 9.2 pounds (this is the range from now to delivery, so I would guess closer to the 6.2 size, but she could already be 7 if she's on course to be as big as her brother).

Maternity Clothes: Same - even my maternity shirts are starting to get on the short side and not covering as well...I think I'm a little big. Ha!

Sleep: Really rough the last two nights.  Lots of pain any time I shift and of course, lots of trips to the bathroom which it's also painful every time I have to get out of bed.  Pretty sure I'm up almost ever hour.  Logan slept 3-4 hours so this is definitely worse than when we had a newborn...maybe Abigail isn't going to be such a good sleeper and so my body is preparing me.  Ha!  I sure hope not though...

Movement: Mostly just shifts, turns and stretches.  She's running out of room :)

Cravings/Aversions: Same - I have been extra hungry lately and for sweets which is totally not good for me.  I am trying to eat a balanced diet, but all I seem to want are sweets.  Probably why I'm gaining so much here at the end.  Ugh.

What I Miss: Sleep, having energy, and being able to be on my feet for longer periods of time so I can actually accomplish stuff.

Gender: Our sweet little girl - Abigail!

Mood: Ok, but starting to stress A LOT.

Milestones: We made it to full term!!  I'm so very thankful to be here, and to know that our sweet girl is developed fully and ready for the world whenever she decides to make her arrival.  However, I still would like for her to be able to put on some more weight and to make it to 40 weeks so I can get more stuff done:)

Her room is almost completely cleared out, we've got a paint sample we're testing.  Right now, I'm thinking it might just be a tad too light, but I'm going to look at it in the morning.  I'm hoping it works though and doesn't take us as many different tries as it did with Logan's room.  Hopefully we will be painting this weekend and setting up her room next week.  I'm so anxious to get her crib all ready for her even though she'll spend the first couple weeks in the pack & play in our room.

Symptoms/Medical Concerns: Still having some pain, but it's still manageable so I'm VERY thankful for that.

The heartburn is driving me crazy and is much more constant, but I'm thankful that it's not all that severe.  Usually taking some TUMS or eating something non acidic is enough to give me relief.

Restless leg is driving me crazy, even during the day. And I'm having some swelling that has pretty much stuck around since Saturday so I'm guessing it's here for the rest of the pregnancy.

I haven't had any more crazy spots, and I'm thankful for that!

Stretch marks are getting ridiculous and I'm guessing they'll only get worse from here.  It's also making my belly VERY itchy, which is so not fun :(

Differences From Past Pregnancy: Pretty sure I've gained a very similar amount of weight this pregnancy, however, I feel MUCH bigger, and if you look a the pics below I'm pretty sure I'm a little bigger.

What I Look Forward To: Getting the nursery in order.  Also hopefully finishing up some of the de-cluttering throughout the house that I've been working on.  I really want it under control so I can maintain things better once she arrives.

Anything Else You'd Like to Share:  My doctor ended up not being in Friday, so my appointment was moved up to Thurs. and I saw the physicians assistant instead.  I was really bummed about it, but it happened this time with Logan too, so I at least knew who she was this time.  I was 1 centimeter dilated and still really high, so not much effacement.  I have an appointment tomorrow morning, so I will see if anything has chanced since last week.

I've also reached the point in my pregnancy (happened last time too since I seem to carry so large) where pretty much everyone, especially strangers, cannot seem to help but comment on my size.  I've had some pretty funny reactions from people when they notice my belly (of course, it is huge, so how could they not notice. Ha!).  Lots of WOW!'s and WHOAH's.  And most can't believe I still have 3 weeks left.  So far though this time I haven't been asked if I'm having twins yet.  Oh the joys of a giant belly :)

This picture was taken on Saturday (36 weeks 5 days)...

Ironically, I wore this same dress (different reason) at almost the exact same time in my pregnancy with Logan.  Here is my 36 weeks, 2 days when I was pregnant with Logan.  Unfortunately, not facing the same way, but to me, I can tell I'm just a little bigger and she seems to be higher, even though I would not have thought that she was...

I am having a girl...

I know, you just read the title and are thinking...umm, haven't you known that for like 15 weeks now?  Yes, yes I have.  However, it just really hit me.  I'm so very excited, but also so very nervous and scared.  I was terrified when I found out we were having a boy when I was pregnant with Logan as I didn't have brothers, or a lot of guy friends growing up and I just wondered how in the world I would make it as a mom of a boy.  I have LOVED every second of it.  Of course, I haven't hit all of the challenges and he definitely does boy things that I just don't understand (like making up games of running into walls and falling down on purpose, only to get up and do it again.  I don't get it. Ha!).  But, now that we're having a girl, I'm so used to life with an energetic, smart, handsome, silly, sweet little boy that I'm not so sure I know what to do with a girl anymore.

I was just reading a friend's blog about a new book that is out by a popular blogger.  The book is called Sparkly Green Earrings and is about this blogger raising a daughter.  At first, I was unaffected by this, but then I got to the end of my friend's post and she said this...
"This book made me look forward to the life stages to come with Ellie. Look forward to and/or dread. But mostly, I look forward to them. I realized as I was reading how truly, madly, deeply, I love my girl and I am so thankful that God has given her to me to raise. As I finished the very last paragraph of the last chapter of the book, I heard Ellie's cries as she woke up from her nap. I finished the book, went into her room, pulled her into the rocking chair and we rocked and snuggled and sang songs and I just felt so encouraged. I may need to read the book once a year just to remind myself that I will get through it."
That may not sound like anything big, or all that emotional, or whatever, but for me - it just hit me.  I realized "I'm having a girl" and I'm going to love her as much as I love Logan, and God has given her (and Logan) to ME. ME!  I got a little emotional over this and the realization that came with it.  Wow, just wow!  Seriously, how did I get so blessed?

I had not planned to purchase the book as I haven't been a regular reader of this woman's blog, but now I'm thinking I just might have to do that.  I am going to need all the help and encouragement I can get in this new journey raising a little girl.

I still may not know what in the world I'm going to do with a girl, but to be fair, I still really don't know what I'm doing with a boy.  All I do know is that God gave me these two blessings and I will do my best to love them, and raise them in a way that is pleasing in God's eyes.  I will definitely snuggle Logan a little tighter when he wakes up from his nap (if he'll let me - ha!) and cherish how close my sweet little girl is right now because before I know it she'll be here, and before I know it again, she'll be grown and I'll be missing theses days when she is always with me.

I love you sweet Abigail and I am so thankful God gave you to me!

36 Weeks

36 Weeks

Total Weight Loss/Gain: My appointment isn't until Friday this week, so I'm a little bummed I have to wait until almost 37 weeks, but on my scale here, my weight has been fluctuating between 32-35 pounds up.  It's weird.  Like fluctuating that much within one day.

Size of Baby: Our baby is about the size of a honeydew - approximately 4.2 to 5.8 pounds and measures about 17.2 to 18.7 inches.

Maternity Clothes: Same - even my maternity shirts are starting to get on the short side and not covering as well...I think I'm a little big. Ha!

Sleep: Some days it feels like I just can't make it without some sleep, but somehow I do.

Movement: Mostly just shifts, turns and stretches.  She's running out of room :)

Cravings/Aversions: I have been extra hungry lately and for sweets which is totally not good for me.  I am trying to eat a balanced diet, but all I seem to want are sweets.  Probably why I'm gaining so much here at the end.  Ugh.

What I Miss: Not being limited on what I can do.

Gender: Our sweet little girl - Abigail!

Mood: Better, but still worried about getting everything done.

Milestones: 36 weeks - only 4 to go!  Almost full term :)  It's hard to believe we're actually here since 6 weeks ago, I was so scared we wouldn't make it this far.  I am not supposed to take any medication anymore should contractions increase & become regular again.  At this point, they will not do anything to stop labor.  However, I still would like to make it to 40 weeks if possible so I hope she takes her time :)

Making some progress in the cleaning out/organizing, but still have lots to do.

Symptoms/Medical Concerns: Either the visits to the chiropractor have worked, or she has shifted or prayers have worked, or a combination of all have made the last few days much better on the mobility and pain from the sciatic.  However, I have started having pain in other places in the hip area which makes me think maybe she's shifted some.  It's not nearly as severe or debilitating, but still a complication.  It's especially painful to lay down and any shifting at night.

Heartburn and restless legs are also driving me crazy, especially at night.  I've found if I eat some cereal or something right before bed it helps prevent the heartburn from being too bad, but that may also be contributing to my extra weight :)

The last 3 days have been crazy though as I've had the silvery/glittery spots each day, which if I lay down for at least 30 minutes, they go away, but it then results in a bad headache.  Not so much fun.  So far none today and hopefully they won't continue this week.

Differences From Past Pregnancy: Last pregnancy I did not get any stretch marks until 36-37 weeks and they were all right around my belly button - almost like sun rays - ha!  I was not good about using any lotion last time, so I've been pretty good about it this time trying to prevent lots more.  I'm still getting them on my stomach, but they're not as visible or itchy, so I think the lotion is working.  However, I just noticed I'm getting stretch marks in other places.  What??  I did not know that happened.  The extra weight I'm gaining seems to be going to my rear end (I apologize for saying that - I know TMI, but I need it documented) & thighs, so I guess that is why they are appearing in those places.  Ugh!

What I Look Forward To: I'm really looking forward to meeting our sweet girl, and part of me wants her to just be here, but I know it's best to wait longer.  I really do want her to be full term when she arrives, but I'm definitely looking forward to her birthday :)

Anything Else You'd Like to Share:  Still really bummed I won't get an ultrasound this week at my appointment :(  Also really bummed my doctor is out of town so my appointment isn't until Friday (which also means Abigail better wait until Friday or later to make her debut)

I'm getting really nervous about balancing life with 2 kiddos.  I LOVE Logan so so very much and I know I will love Abigail just as much, but it's still a little scary to think about having to split my time with them.  I do not want Logan to feel left out or unloved because I know that newborns require A LOT of time & attention.  I don't want Logan to ever feel like he's being replaced, or not loved.  I also feel bad that Abigail won't get the same one-on-one time with me that Logan had.  I hope to be able to do lots of little outings with Logan when someone else can help with Abigail, and have Brandon do the same.  I know Logan will get time with grandparents too that will help with some one-on-one time for me with Abigail.  I know we'll balance everything the best we can, but it's just really hard not to worry about it.

No picture, sorry :(
